In addition to residential customers, we serve commercial clients, installing beautiful conference room tables, break room countertops, and workspaces. Learn more about our services.
Yes, our initial consultation is free, and we serve residential and commercial clients within a 60-minute drive from Quincy. We will come to your home or office to assess your space, take measurements, and talk with you about your project before you make the decision to move forward.
Our industry knowledge is what sets us apart from national home improvement chains. Owner Lindsay Ertel has worked in the industry for more than 13 years and understands the complexities involved in choosing countertops made of natural stone and other materials. In addition, you’ll have more colors and patterns to choose from and the advantage of viewing full stone slabs rather than samples. The quality and customer service we provide can’t be matched by the big box stores, and our services are comparable in price, if not lower.
On average, it’s a 1-2 month process from start to finish. But don’t put off your selection process. Sometimes it’s best to find the perfect piece and then design the rest around it.. If a customer makes decisions quickly, the process can take as little as a few weeks.
Natural stone – granite, marble and quartzite – and man-made quartz are both high-end materials for countertops and other home projects. Neither is better – it really comes down to your personal preference and your family’s lifestyle. Read these tips for choosing a countertop material.
Nope! Quartz is a manufactured material, while quartzite is a natural stone quarried from the earth. Because it is an engineered stone, quartz comes in a wide variety of colors and has a more uniform pattern than natural stone. Quartzite looks like marble and is a very hard, durable stone. Both quartz and quartzite provide beautiful options for your kitchen or bathroom countertops. Once again, it comes down to personal taste.
GemStone Countertops does not carry solid surface or laminate countertops. We focus on high-end, luxury materials – granite, marble, quartzite, quartz, and porcelain. Laminate countertops are made from layers of plastic bonded to particleboard to create a solid surface. While more affordable upfront, laminate is not a high-quality material and will need to be replaced more often. A solid surface countertop such as Corian is a step up from laminate but does not offer the premium look or durability of natural stone.
Adding a sealer to natural stone countertops – granite, quartzite, and marble – will protect it from liquid damage and stains, as well as chips. Sealers aren’t necessary for most quartz and porcelain countertops. At GemStone Countertops, we will go over proper care and maintenance for your specific countertop surface to ensure it lasts a lifetime!
We suggest cleaning natural stone surfaces with a mild soap and warm water. Rinse the surface after washing and dry with a soft cloth. It’s best to avoid scouring powders and cleaning products with lemon, vinegar or other acids, as well as bleach and ammonia. We also sell cleaning products for a deeper clean.
Like natural stone, quartz should be cleaned with a mild soap and warm water. Avoid harsh chemicals, cleaning products with acids, bleach and ammonia. While quartz resists permanent staining, we still recommend using surface cleaner with a nonabrasive sponge to remove immediate spills. It’s important to use trivets, mats, and hot pads on quartz countertops because they’re not heat-resistant.
Porcelain is easy to clean – all it takes is wiping with a damp cloth. It’s also heat-resistant, so you can put that hot pan on the countertop without any worries.
